The magic of bias sinamay with Edwina Ibbotson

In this 2-day class with Edwina, you will master the craft of creating a big brim hat from a vibrant palette of sinamay and/or windowpane sinamay. Edwina will share how to create dramatic silhouettes of unparalleled elegance for which her own designs are known and recognized in the Royal Ascot Style Guide. This refined technique can also be used to create an extended brim upon a classic boater.

Supplies

  • Crown and brim block of choice
  • Iron
  • Sinamay, basket weave or regular or mixture, in colours of choice 1 meter/1.1 yard of each
    colour or 1.5 mtrs (1.7 y) if using only 2 colours ( for multi colour hats I have made with
    this technique the most colours I have used so far is 5 maybe 6, but 2 or 3 colours
    still looks good)
  • Wire – for large brims for example diameter over 40 cm use piano/sprung wire,
    for smaller brims, use Brim reed – clear plastic wire but the thicker gauge.
  • Small piece of thick card – This is to make into a small centre block
  • Parchment Paper
  • # 5 petersham ribbon for head fitting
