This butterfly has traveled with Phillip across the expanse of his career. Sometimes she is abstract and sometimes more apparently formed. 

Sometimes she can be bridal….. other times she can flock together with her sisters and create the effect of a hat.

Made from nothing, she is everything.

FUNdamental Millinery Hand Stitches with Mela Hoyt-Heydon

Description: Learn traditional and necessary hand stitches for use in millinery. During 3 hours with Mela, you’ll create a sample book of stitches and become familiar with their applications!

Many of us know how to sew instinctively but this class will put the names on top of all practical stitches you need!

Mackintosh Felt Roses with Biliana Borissova

Description: Explore some exciting techniques to create a felt rose and leave. The rose flower ornament is inspired by the creations of the great artist of the Art Deco era, Charles Rennie Mackintosh.

Not only will you create some bold ornaments, but it will also empty your stash of felt cutouts!

Cotton Organdie trims with Edwina Ibbotson

Cotton organdie creates ethereal trims for small and large hats. Edwina will walk through different techniques of using this versatile material.

The Hatter Studio with Laura Del Villaggio

There are quite a few differences in the materials, tools and techniques used by traditional hatters as opposed to milliners. In this 3 hr class, Laura will demonstrate blocking techniques used with western weight felts. These may be up to 250 grams whereas millinery weights are typically around 120 grams.

Students will create swatch sets of felts in various weights and fibers including rabbit, nutria and beaver. We’ll discuss pouncing, distressing and burning. Students will also have the opportunity for hands-on practice with hatter’s tools like a rounding jack and curling irons for brim edges.

Couture Feather Techniques with Jane Taylor

The Couture Feather Techniques course will equip you with several very versatile ways to manipulate feathers, cut and curl. This is the perfect short course for beginners and intermediate students to learn the basics and the advanced to learn a new way to shape these beautiful elements.
